Why Keller is bad for Rodney and John is perfect

honeybearbee:

Ok, so I blame popkin16 for these thoughts as she is all McShep up in Tumblr. I’ve had them before, but I never articulated them.

I think that Keller is bad for Rodney because she wants to change him. I think she fell in love of the idea of Rodney. She liked that he was a genius, and that he was hot. She thought his awkwardness with people was cute and adorable. But, she never wanted him to be rude to people. He had to be nice to people he didn’t agree with and that he thought were stupid. He had to be nice to people who probably mocked him his whole career. I bet she could never handle Rodney at 3 am fueled by lack of sleep, coffee, and disaster. She wouldn’t like it when he mocked medicine as being a “soft” science. I think she saw him as someone who had flaws that she could fix and make him a better person. What she didn’t know is that Rodney is fine the way he is: loud, obnoxious, arrogant, and the smartest man in the room. Also, Keller is basically useless in a fight. Even Teyla got annoyed with her and Teyla never got annoyed with Rodney, not even when he was bitching about the food.

I think John is perfect for Rodney because he likes Rodney the way he is. He likes it when Rodney rants about lemons, or how everyone is a moron. He likes the way Rodney is the smartest man in the room and how he helps John save Atlantis all the time. He likes how Rodney can shoot a gun and is brave even (especially) when he’s scared out of his mind. John encourages Rodney to have fun and not to worry about every little thing all the time. He would never make Rodney be nice to anyone who used to mock him, because Rodney doesn’t deserve that. If John had gone with Rodney to that presentation he would have smirked at everyone and flirted with Rodney. And everyone would have been jealous and Rodney would have gloated he had the prettiest date and everyone else was stupid. Then John and Rodney would have saved the day (and not been utterly useless).

bodyguard au

John Sheppard is the only live-in bodyguard Rodney McKay’s ever had that’s lasted longer than two weeks. McKay has a nasty habit of getting caught up in the excitement of his work and taking off with only a vague note (‘going to meet some monkeys’) to hint at his whereabouts, making him an easy target.

John always finds his man, and soon it’s well known that you do not abduct or harm Rodney McKay - it isn’t safe. Not for anyone.

Remember how John talking someone into committing suicide so Rodney wouldn’t have to sacrifice himself is an actual thing that happened?
